Artist statement:

I like to vary my art practice. The challenge of working outside in a fast moving environment is reflected in a series of oil pastels. The pastels are of particular stretch of shoreline near Henry the Eighth’s Castle in Portsmouth. What drew me initially was the changing quality of the light. Looking out to sea I worked at different times of day from early morning until it became dark. Vivid colours of late summer sunsets and the drama of winter storms reflected in the water as ghostly after-images. Sometimes the sky, sun and moon seemed to collide with the ‘edge’ of the sea. Then there were boats, gulls, sailboarders, dogs…
